Extreme Heat X

Heat is the leading weather-related killer in most large U.S. cities, exceeding deaths from hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, and blizzards combined. Extreme heat events will continue to grow in number and ferocity.

Coping with them requires the most accurate forecasting possible, thorough planning, and a coordinated response with an adequate number of properly prepared cooling centers to serve those that are most at risk.

Delaware Interfaith Power and Light has partnered with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and Delmarva Power to sponsor the implementation of a Delaware Heat-Health Warning System (HHWS) that will provide a state of the art extreme heat warning system.

This system will be utilized by the National Weather Service (NWS) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Using the HHWS and other information, the NWS will issue extreme heat advisories for New Castle County and for Kent/Sussex counties. Your donations to help pay for this system are greatly appreciated. Please go to our Donations page.
