In a significant stride toward community resilience, we're proud to announce our Cooling Centers initiative for the summer of 2024. Thanks to the generous support from the Christiana Care Community Investment Fund, we're expanding our efforts to operate three Cooling Centers in New Castle County.
Houses of worship hold unique positions as anchor institutions in our communities and can serve as reliable partners during extreme weather events. When the heat becomes unbearable, faith spaces transform into sanctuaries of hope and relief. They are trusted hubs where individuals can seek refuge, knowing that they are supported by a network deeply rooted in community values.
In collaboration with the University of Delaware Mangone Climate Change Science & Policy Hub, our Cooling Centers initiative gains added depth and expertise. This partnership amplifies the impact of our work, combining the strengths of faith communities and academic resources to inform a robust and streamlined effort.
Our journey towards the Cooling Centers initiative began with a successful pilot program at Salem United Methodist Church, Newark in the summer of 2023. With support from Delmarva Power, this initial endeavor demonstrated the profound impact faith communities can have in mitigating the effects of extreme weather events.
Your involvement is pivotal in making our Cooling Centers initiative a success. Join us in transforming faith into action, creating resilient and supportive communities for all.
Whether by volunteering, making a contribution, or spreading awareness, every gift strengthens our collective impact.
